Jersey is situated a few miles off the coast of France, near Normandy, and is the biggest of the group of islands acknowledged as the Channel Islands. The Channel Islands are made up of the likes of Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney and Sark, the first two being the major of these islands. Although Jersey is closer to the French shoreline than the English shoreline it is the job of the United Kingdom to guard it against any invasion attempts, however, with this said the island itself is not classed as part of the United Kingdom or the European Union, instead it is part of the Common Travel Area which essentially means that it is a passport free region.
